Tendon Repair Surgery and Recovery Time

Because of the techniques and technologies doctors employ today, tendon repair surgery may not take as long as you would think. In fact, these surgeries can sometimes be performed in as few as 45 to 60 minutes. The follow-up to the procedure may take some time, however.

The Surgery

You will have to consult with your surgeon a few or more times before the surgery is actually ordered. The surgeon has advanced technology and very efficient procedures with which to work. If you have relatively minor injuries that need to be repaired, your physician may be able to perform the repair rather quickly. In other cases, it may take longer. The location of the tendon also plays into this. If you have a tendon injury that involves an area of the body that isn’t easily accessible to the physician or if you need a procedure that includes a tendon graft, this may add time.

The Recovery

Preparations for your recovery should be made prior to the surgery itself. The recovery part of the procedure is oftentimes more involved than any other part. The major responsibility for its success rests upon the shoulders of the patient. There are measures that you can take to speed along your recovery.

• If you are a smoker, this is a great time to quit. Smokers tend to take longer to heal in many cases.
• Make sure that you have someone to help you with everyday tasks until you are ready to get back to your normal routine.
• Get back to your normal routine as soon as you feel up to it.
• Follow your doctor’s instructions to the letter so that you heal properly and don’t make things even worse.
• If rehabilitation is prescribed, attend all sessions until you are released.

Hip Pain or Kidney Infection?

Pain in your hips can sometimes be a side effect of a kidney infection. It can also come from so many other sources that it’s sometimes hard for a patient to tell where it starts. Pain from your kidneys can radiate throughout your back and hips.

Minor Problems

Many pain issues are minor problems that resolve on their own. Hip pain can be caused by inflamed nerves or tissues and is sometimes associated with back problems in general. Arthritis can also be a minor cause of hip pain. Infections, on the other hand, are very big problems.

Infections and Pain

If you have a kidney infection, some pain may well be experienced in your hips. Kidney infections are always serious problems. They require treatment in all cases. You should always have a doctor take a look at you if you suspect that you have a kidney infection. MRI scans, x-rays, and other tests can provide a doctor with information about what’s going on with your body. Infections need to be treated right away. The symptoms, including hip pain, generally lesson very quickly once treatment begins.

How to Ease Pain in Hip Joints

Pain in your hip joints can be frustrating and sometimes debilitating. You should always talk to your doctor about your pain issues. He may prescribe medications that will treat chronic hip pain. He may also recommend that you have procedures done to correct underlying problems. There are other recommendations that are not as invasive as well. Here are some things that you can try to lessen hip joint pain.

Exercise is oftentimes the best cure for many different types of pain. If your doctor recommends this treatment, try to start your day with these exercises that stretch out the muscles and tendons in your hips.

• Exercise/Stretch

1. Lie on your back and position your feet flat on the floor in front of you, bending your knees.
2. Raise your buttocks off the ground slowly. Use your abs to lift and push with your hips.
3. Straighten out your body without overextending your back. Hold this position, and count to ten.
4. Repeat as needed.
• Exercise/Stretch

1. Stand up straight, and keep your feet pointing forward.
2. Lift up your right leg as far as you can, keeping it straight. Then return it.
3. Do the same with your left leg.

Cold packs are great for inflammation. Keep the cold pack on the joint that hurts for ten to 15 minutes. You can do this two or three times per day.

Heat helps with arthritis. You can take a bath, or you can use a heating pad to alleviate pain in your joints.
